I've always been a big fan of Loom; it's a great tool, and I've used it countless times for quick screen recordings. But like many great tools, its free tier has limitations. I was constantly running into a 5-minute time limit and a restricted resolution. I could have paid for a subscription, but something inside me said, "I can build a simpler version that does exactly what I need"
This decision led me down a classic "build vs. buy" rabbit hole. On one hand, Loom is easy to use and packed with features. On the other hand, it's expensive, and I have zero control over the software itself. Building my own tool would not require a lot of effort, and it would give me complete control, unlimited recording length, high quality, and, most importantly, it would be free for everyone.
